PROGRAMS

KCKC has a variety of programs to choose from for all paddling enthusiasts - from beginner to competitve levels.

 

COMPETITIVE TEAM PROGRAMS

Programs designed and offered for either already established competitive team OR new kids interested in Performance and High Performance Olympic flatwater sprint paddling.

Either the kids are interested in becoming sprint paddling champions OR just want to use paddling as summer conditioning for another sport while not competing in paddling, our program will provide all kids are looking for.

According to research there is very significant correlation between sprint paddling and cross country skiing, as well as swimming.

 

4 different programs based on DEVELOPMENT AGE are offered:

 

LEARN to TRAIN: Year "0" - 1

Year "0": Program set up for kids who just finished either "Intro to Paddling" program or learnt fundamental sprint skills during our Summer Camp. Kids get the opportunity to participate at BC Bantam Championship in September.The club is providing ALL equipment including single boats, teamboats, paddles and lifejackets. 

Year 1: Kids continue learning basic sprint paddling skills while using variaety of boats such as kayaks, canoes, SUPs. Kids are also learning teamboats skills. Kids participate at the serie of regattas called BC CUP and BC Bantam Championship. 

3 sessions per week are offered during the school months. Full days week long training camps (10 - 12 sessions/week) OR morning OR afternoon session are offered during the summer months based on racing and development schedule. 

The club is providing ALL equipment including single boats, teamboats, paddles and lifejackets. 

 

TRAIN to TRAIN: Year 2 - 3

Kids are developing all the paddling skills with major focus on paddling technique for all boats such as kayaks, canoes, SUPs and whhitewater boats. 

Based on the development and skills level, kids are offered spot at the Spring training camp during the spring break. 

3 - 4 sessions per week are offered during the school months. Full days week long training camps (10 - 12 sessions/week) OR morning sessions OR afternoon sessions are offered during the summer months based on racing and development schedule. 

Kids starting to participate in more advanced regattas, such as Canadian Nationals (age 15 and older)

During early spring and late fall kids also paddle on the South Thompson river. 

The club is providing ALL  single boats and teamboats. Kids are purchasing private paddle and private lifejackets based on coach's reccomendation. 

 

PERFORMANCE and HIGH PERFORMANCE: Year 4 and up

Kids are enrolled into full time training while being nominated to Provincial team AND/OR National team based on level of performance and commitment. 

Kids participate in 2 - 4 weeks of spring training camp, 1 - 2 weeks long fall camp and attend National team trial, Canada Games and Canadian Nationals championship on regular basis. 

6 - 8 session per week are offered during the regular weeks. During the training camps the amount of sessions go up to 15/week. 

Kids attend up to 10 - 12 regattas per paddling season while some of them are being held in eastern provinces. 

The club is providing teamboats. Kids are purchasing private single boats, paddles and private lifejackets based on coach's reccomendation. 

 

 

FIELD TRIPS 

A day of FUN on the water, creating awesome memories surrounded in a spectacular setting at Shumway Lake, located just 15 minutes from Kamloops.With our trained and professional staff, your class will learn and enjoy the many benefits of recreational canoe, kayak, dragon boat & paddle board, for $30/participant.With a customizable program to fulfill your class needs, KCKC provides all the necessary equipment to ensure a SAFE & FUN paddling experience. Available end of May till June 29th. SUMMER CAMPS 

KCKC offers week long day camps for kids ages 7 to 14 to learn to paddle our various fleet of boats amongst the gorgeous beauty of Shumway Lake. Our counselors lead hikes, cooperative games and kids get to experience a variety of paddle sports on the water. See Summer Camp at top of page for schedules and registration.

DRAGONBOAT PADDLING 

For a group of friends or co-workers looking to build teamwork and friendship in an evening together on the the water. Using great teamwork and communication, your group will learn to propel the boat forward in the water as a group in a safe and fun group atmosphere.
